Quest for Christ Costume Guidelines
Three Forks Stake 2026
Here are some “Please Do’s” and some “Please Do Nots” that you should consider when planning your costume for Quest.
Participants and their families are responsible for providing costumes for daily wearing. Costumes for reenactments will be provided by the stake.
Costumes are to be worn at all times (except when sleeping). This helps to get into the right spirit and frame of mind for the different re-enactments and activities from the Book of Mormon.
Two complete costumes are required.
Costumes are to be just below the knee in length. It is acceptable to cut a short slit up the sides for ease of movement. Please reinforce the slits as the Battle Scenes are quite active and these side slits can get easily torn.
Make costumes large enough to accommodate clothing worn underneath. You should wear a t-shirt and modest shorts underneath the costume at all times. If the weather is cool, you may want to also wear jeans or sweatpants underneath.
As the mornings and evenings can be cool, you may want to wear a light jacket. If possible, try to wear all extra clothing and jackets underneath so you maintain the look of the costume.
For costumes, use earthtones, blues, greens, browns and natural colors that would have been used in Book of Mormon times. Fabrics that look woven or have a striped pattern are fine. PLEASE DO NOT use extra bright colors or neon fabrics with large distracting print patterns or large flower patterns. (Always err on the conservative side and try to imagine plain and simple clothing worn by people at this time).
You may choose to have a head covering of some sort. You may wear a headband.(Around the forehead and tied in the back), or a “shepherd’s” head covering to protect against the sun. Ball caps, cowboy hats, toques, knit cap or other headgear not determined to be appropriate should not be used.
Footwear - you will need two pairs of good shoes or runners. One of these may be replaced with a sturdy pair of sandals with velcro or snaps that do not easily come off. NO FLIP FLOPS. The terrain is rough and you will be doing a fair amount of walking as well as participating in war re-enactments.
Always remember that modesty is the key with all costumes.
Have fun accessorizing your costume with trims, buttons, sashes, tie belts, contrasting materials. Etc. but always keep in mind that you are trying to look like the people at the time of the Book of Mormon.
Ideas for costumes can be found in LDS Book of Mormon artwork. You can Google images for Moroni’s Quest clothing. Many ideas are also found on Pinterest.
